Add a Device

How to Add a New Device

The Device edit form is used for provisioning or connecting a device such as a desk phone to a call feature.

Let's say you are adding a new device to your instance that will handle receptionist calls for your headquarters office.

Device New Form Visual

  1. Enter a Name for the device (e.g. 'John Doe Inc. Reception - HQ'). The Name is used to identify the device and how to distinguish this device from all other device records within the device table.

  2. Enter a Login or username for your device. A login is between 4-32 characters for SIP registration and authentication (e.g. 'jdireceptionHQ')

  3. The Password is displayed/autofilled in the device edit form. Above the Password section is the Regenerate Password option/button. Regenerate Password Visual When you select/click on the 'Regenerate Password' option, a new password is displayed in the 'Password' section of the device form.

  4. Enter a Channel Limit. Devices can have between 1 to 25 channels.

  5. Enter a Timeout duration. The duration of a timeout can be set to anywhere between 1 to 120 seconds. A timeout specifies how long the device will ring before either transferring the caller to a specified failover destination or hanging up the call.

  6. Select a Failover from the Failover drop down. This specifies where callers will be directed if the device does not answer within the timeout period. This can be any other routable destination such as a menu or voice mail box. If no failover is assigned to the device (and the failover drop down menu is set to '------'), callers will be disconnected once the timeout duration is reached.

  7. Enter a Caller ID Name (e.g. 'John Doe Inc.') Enter a specific name to be set and displayed on outbound calls.

  8. Enter a Caller ID Number (e.g. '17202345678') Enter a specific number to be set and displayed on outbound calls.

  9. The Access Control List (ACL) section specifies IPv4 address(es) or CIDR-notated subnets that override the default ACL setup in the instance's profile. If this is not set, it is inherited from the instance's ACL.

  10. Let's say you have more than one location within your instance (e.g. 'John Doe Inc. Headquarters' and 'John Doe Inc. Dallas'). What location would you like the device to be associated with? The Location dropdown displays all location options within the instance. Select the respective location that will be associated with the instance.

  11. Timezone Drop Down Menu: Select the correct timezone from the dropdown menu (e.g. 'US/Eastern'). Selecting a timezone is optional.

  12. MAC Address: Enter the MAC (Media Access Control) address associated with the device. Entering the MAC address is also optional.
