Extensions Overview

Extensions are user-created numbers (either two digits or 4-12 digits in length) for use within the phone system. Extensions are similar to phone numbers and provide a starting point for call routing. Extensions can point to any routable object. For example, you can assign extensions to different devices, menus, or ring groups. Extensions only exist within a site. Therefore, they cannot be called from other sites on the same account or from outside without a caller first being routed through a menu.

How to Add a New Extension

Extension Form Visual

  1. Enter the Name (e.g. 'John Doe Ext.') of the extension. The name/title will uniquely identify the extension record from all other extension records within the extension table.
  2. The Number is the 2 or 4 to 12 digit length extension number (e.g. '1001'). This is number the caller will dial in order to get connected. Enter an extension number in the Number section that meets these requirements.
  3. Where would you like the extension to point to? A ring group? A device? Select a destination from the Destination dropdown (e.g. 'John Doe (device:32)').
